A bright, pearly white smile can boost your self-esteem and make a great first impression. Porcelain veneers, also known as ceramic veneers, are a cosmetic dentistry option that offers transformation to your smile without extensive dental work.
At Casey Dental in the Wilkes Barre Scranton area, our skilled dental professionals have extensive experience placing veneers. We will work with you to develop a custom treatment plan that meets your individual needs and goals.
What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are thin shells of ceramic material bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They can be used to correct a wide range of cosmetic imperfections, from stained teeth to gaps and chips. Best of all, veneers look natural and can give you the smile you’ve always wanted.
Veneers are an ideal solution for patients who are experiencing:
- Tooth discoloration or staining
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Tooth enamel that is worn down
- Misaligned or misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth
Dental Veneer Procedure
Placing dental veneers typically takes place over two visits to our office but in some cases we may be able to do it the same day! We will thoroughly examine your teeth during your initial consultation and discuss your aesthetic goals. If we determine veneers are the right solution, we will begin preparing your teeth.
Preparing your teeth for veneers usually involves removing a small amount of enamel from the front surfaces of your teeth. This is necessary to create room for the veneers and ensure a natural-looking result. Once your teeth are prepped, we will take impressions or scan the area that will be used to create your custom veneers.
You will need to wear temporary veneers while your permanent veneers are created in our dental laboratory. Once they are ready, you will return to our office for a second appointment. During this appointment, we will bond your veneers in place and make any necessary adjustments. And get ready to smile !!
Caring for Your Porcelain Veneers
Once your porcelain veneers are in place, it’s essential to take care of them the same way you would your natural teeth. Porcelain veneers are strong and durable, but they can still be damaged.
- Brush at least twice daily and floss daily to remove plaque and bacteria from your teeth.
- Avoid chewing on hard objects, such as ice or hard candy, which can damage your veneers.
- Avoid overly sticky or chewy foods, such as caramel or gum, which can pull your veneers off.
- See your dentist for regular dental visits and cleanings. It is usually recommended that you see your dentist every six months.
Dental veneers are a great way to improve the appearance of your smile. With proper care, they can last for many years. On average, veneers last between 10 and 15 years.
